This week we played the return leg of last week’s game against Adelaide Uni. With recent form having been poor, we were keen to restore some pride against the team who had thrashed us 4-0 just 7 days earlier. With the A’s having a week off due to the cup round, our squad was boosted with the special guest appearances of Stevie G and Fernando Figueroa.
Unfortunately the star inclusions were cancelled out by some late withdrawals, most notably Michael ‘Too Good For C’s’ Brinias forcing Keg back into goals. Read more…

The latest round of the C grade season saw us venture west to play the Monarch’s on their ground at Grange.
A host of injuries through all teams at the club had left us decidedly short of options going into this game, most notably we had no keeper nor any options as a back-up so this was going to be a tricky game.
As the game got under way, we took early control going into the breeze. ‘Pipa’ and ‘el Jefe’ were combining well early and we were getting good service down the flanks from ‘Country Boy’ and ‘The Wedding Singer’. Read more…

After back to back losses, the FC Adelaide C squad ventured up the hill to play closet Germans Handorf on their turf. It was a must win game, as another loss would have put a serious dent into our premiership aspirations. With the cup round on and Handorf’s senior teams both not playing, we weren’t sure what to expect. El Presidente got a start in defense with the Angry Dinosaur boosting the squad in goals and yours truly making my first start for the year up front.
After losing the toss, my 14 year old opposing captain (nicknamed Hobbit, appropriately enough) had us starting the game going downhill. Read more…

The latest round of the C grade season saw us play in the plush surroundings of St Peters college. St Peters were top going into this game, so we were expecting another tough challenge.
The squad welcomed back Mike Fournakos for his first game after a long injury lay-off and Damien ‘the D train’ Simpson also found himself in the C’s due to work commitments later that day. Read more…

FC Adelaide welcomed Cove to the Western Youth Centre for the highly anticipated top of the table clash. This was to be the biggest test of the season so far, with Cove considered by many to be the team to beat for the C Grade championship. With Benny ‘Baby Bird Ward, John Samaras and Jorge ‘el Jefe’ Calderon all unavailable, the squad was lacking some defensive depth. This was truly going to test us to the full.
As the game got under way, Cove showed exactly why they will be the team to beat this season. Some of their players would not have been out of place in a higher division, with their squad carrying some high quality players for Div 5.
Adelaide looked shaky early on with Cove applying strong pressure. Sure enough after 10 mins, our defence cracked. There was little stand-in keeper Brinias could do after a sublime cross from the left saw the Cove striker head home confidently from less than 5 yards. It was a quality goal, 1-0 to Cove. Read more…

The latest round of the C Grade season saw FC Adelaide playing away in the land of the giant’s, Flinders University. The usually boggy pitch was in very good condition after a warm autumn period which everyone was happy to see. Confidence was high amongst the team with us beginning this game at the top of the table. Flinders have traditionally been a bit of a bogey team for FC Adelaide, so we were not taking them lightly.
The game got off to the worst possible start, with Flinders going 1-0 up after some poor defending from the FC Adelaide back four. It all looked a little too easy as Flinders caught our boys napping, there was little Keg could do as he found himself 1 on 1 with the Flinders striker who calmly dispatched the ball into the back of the net from close range. 1-0 down after just a few minutes. It was another beautiful autumn day for football as FC Adelaide welcomed the Monarchs back to the Western Youth Centre, this time for points. There was no shortage of motivation for our boys with the Monarch’s being the only team to have beaten the FC Adelaide C’s this year, in one of the pre-season trials.
The squad was looking healthy, with John Samaras making his debut as sweeper and no less than 5 subs on the bench. Choosing the team and managing the substitutions presented a bit of a challenge, with Lingam, Adam and Baby Bird all notable absentees this week. Read more…

After a cold & stormy build up, the skies cleared nicely as FC Adelaide hosted Stirling at the Western Youth Centre. It was a welcome change to have a near full strength squad to choose from, with a few lads unlucky not to make the team this week.
Stirling made a very strong start, with good possession early. They were knocking it around confidently, making our boys look second best for long periods in what was a very high standard C’s game. FC Adelaide were made to pay early as the defense once again got caught trying to hold on to possession instead of making a routing clearance. Benny “Baby Bird” Ward was dispossessed outside the box and stand-in keeper Mark “Rumble Fish” Sarcina could do nothing to stop the Stirling no. 7’s unstoppable shot into the bottom left corner. 1-0 to Stirling. Champagne football continues!
Well after last week’s trek to Hahndorf it was again bumper to bumper football at Cowandilla with our 3 teams playing at home.
The game had just started and we had the Hawks on the back foot within 2 minutes when a delightful well placed cross from our right flank found Mohammad who slotted the ball home.
From then on the lads played a nice game of possession football, not letting Hawks have a sniff of anything near the goals. We constantly put offensive pressure, creating numerous chances throughout the first and second halves. Crossbars and posts were the only factor keeping the score respectful for the Hawks. Read more…

After a dramatic week of injuries and absentees the FC Adelaide C’s squad was decimated, with just barely 11 players able to make the trek up the freeway to face Strathalbyn on their own paddock. Confidence was low with the team being very conscious of having no subs.
To their credit the boys got off to a flying start, with Fernando “Pipa” Murray scoring within the first 5 minutes. It seemed like slow motion as he paused and chipped the ball delightfully over the keeper, with the ball dropping in off the crossbar. The spirit of the entire team was lifted from that point as FC Adelaide began to take control of the early attacks.
James ”Bruce” Li was unlucky to see an effort flash just wide of the post on 10 minutes, as we seized control of the game. Pipa was involved in everything good when FC Adelaide was going forward, he and Lingam combined superbly down the right getting good support from Sam “the Godfather” Tronnolone. Read more…
