The B’s were hot off wins in rounds 1 and 2 and had yet to be tested this season. This showed immediately at kick-off when our casual approach was punished by an alert opposition.

Sturt Marion intercepted the ball, strung 3 passes together and put the ball past Brinias, and into the back of our net. This was the quickest goal conceded since Keg was beaten by a lobbing kick-off shot at the Southern Breakers away game in 2006.

The boys gritted their teeth at having made such a silly error but pressed on. The first half continued with both teams sharing possession. Read more…

Sturt Marion scored first with a nice left foot drive in the 20th minutes.

We had many attacks-could not convert.

Continued to dominate then Premier League scored but the goal was disallowed for a dubious offside.

We continued to attack and 5 minutes later Premier League scored. Read more…

Well Saturday was our first home game of the season. Conditions were ideal from a player’s and a spectator’s point of view. Southern breakers were our opposition and they started with their normal running game. After taking 5 minutes to settle down to our possession game, we soon had control.

Our defence was rock solid, foiling Breakers’ attacks with ease. Our midfield dominated, and I am pleased to say they took defensive responsibility, which gave us the extra numbers coming out of defence. This gave us a lot of possession in our offensive build ups, which in turn caused the Southern Breakers to spend plenty of the game chasing us. Our control and passing was crisp, and players on the ball always had two options to distribute the ball to. Read more…

After our convincing yet frustrating victory last week, we were hopeful for a similar result against an unfancied opposition in the Southern Breakers. We had the pleasure of welcoming back club stalwart John Falidis from injury whilst losing the services of Jim Baltidis and Stevie Georgiou through injury and work commitments respectively.

We altered our formation from last week’s 4-4-2 to a 3-5-2 wingback system in the hope we could dominate the centre of midfield whilst exposing our opponents out wide. The first half saw each side scoring their solitary goals in an otherwise dull affair. We hit the front first through a well earned penalty won by Captain Ange Antonis, after he latched on to a clever through ball. Vice Captain Phil Georgiou drew on all his experience to calmly convert. An early change was made as Nick Galanopoulos succumbed to an injury sustained in a hard challenge. He was replaced by Danny Demourtzidis. This coincided with the Breakers hitting back to level the scores. Read more…

Well the weeks of trial games are now at an end .The Reserves kicked off on a slight hick-up with Coxy running late due to transport trouble. So we slightly reorganized our team accordingly. All in all we had a good 5-10 minutes then we lost our structure and tended to ball watch and give up the ball very easily. We were failing to use our flanks and instead electing to go directly through the middle, where Adelaide Uni had many players. This meant we struggled breaking through.

We had a few chances but our final touches were letting us down. We seemed to overuse the ball and only looked for options in middle of park. At half time I emphasized to the team to start using the flanks more in order to switch play, and also to play to feet rather than falling into Adelaide Unis game plan of long, low, possession soccer. Well, after a long wait and what felt like an even longer pre-season, we finally arrived at the opening day of the season. Saturday saw us take on Adelaide Uni 2 and, with several new players, we knew it was going to be a tough ask.

The game started positively for us. Beginning dominant, we were unable to convert the majority of possession and numerous chances into goals. JC and Phil worked tirelessly in the centre of midfield whilst Stevie G was proving a handful out on the right. Our biggest headache stemmed from Uni’s set pieces in dangerous areas. Fortunately, Tass was up to the task each and every time.

As the first half drew on, we remained the better of the two sides, but the scoreboard suggested honours were even. For all our possession and opportunities, our good work continually came apart as we attacked into the final third.

We returned after the break keen to shake of the frustration of the first half. The breakthrough came via Dimi as he broke on the left to calmly slot home what was to be the only goal of the match. The experienced defence, consisting of Frank, Jimmy N, Jimmy B and Fernando held firm and rarely looked troubled. Ange and Aaron were damaging in attack, with the latter being substituted for Reza and Stevie G for Syed. The fresh players created chances but to no avail.

All in all, very well played by everybody, yet improvements must be made in the final third for us to be a force this year.
